Last year, under the goal of carbon peak and carbon neutral, China's low-carbon energy and power transformation and development process was further accelerated, and energy storage played an increasingly important role in this key process. According to the statistics of Energy Storage Application Branch of China Chemical and Physical Power Supply Industry Association, in 2021, China's energy storage manufacturing industry chain is increasingly perfect, with the market size reaching 50 billion-60 billion yuan, up more than 120% over 2020, showing strong vitality; In the field of R & d innovation, energy storage industry reached 12.6%, 15.6% in 2019,1 8.7% and 2021.
In recent years, to support the development of energy storage industry, the National Development and Reform Commission, energy bureau has issued the "difference" new energy storage plan ", the difference energy science and technology innovation plan," about further promoting the new energy storage in power market and scheduling notice and other important documents, in June, the nine departments and jointly issued the technology support carbon peak carbon neutral implementation plan (2022-2030), attaches great importance to the planning and development of energy storage.
For the issue of energy storage cost that the market concerns, Liu Yanlong said in his speech at the conference that by the end of 2020, China's energy storage system cost fell to 1.5 yuan per watt-hour, which is considered to be the inflection point of the energy storage industry, but in 2021, due to the increase of upstream raw materials prices, the energy storage system cost increased by about 30% -50%. According to the research of the association this year, the current bidding price of energy storage in different application scenarios is between 1.29 yuan and 1.9 yuan per watt-hour.
"The cost of the energy storage system this year will be break-even at 1.5-1.6 yuan per watt-hour," Liu said. " It is expected that in the next five years, the cost of the energy storage system is expected to be reduced by 30%, and in the next 10 years, it will be reduced by another 70-80% to 1.0-1.2 yuan per watt-hour in the next 10 years.
In his speech, Liu Yanlong also made an overall analysis of the development of China's energy storage industry at present from the perspective of industry observation, and pointed out the problems and challenges.
In terms of market environment, at present, China's new energy storage power stations can participate in various power markets as market entities. The independent energy storage power stations can send power to the power grid, and the corresponding charging power quantity does not bear the power transmission and distribution price, government-managed funds and surcharges. However, the specific peak regulation compensation mechanism, the guarantee call time and how to calculate the accounts are still the difficulties faced in the current development process of energy storage power stations.
In the industry technology level, the current market focus mainly focuses on lithium-ion battery energy storage, flow battery and pumped storage, and pays little attention to the development of other new energy storage technologies and hybrid energy storage technologies. Lithium-ion batteries for energy storage are relatively mature, but the capacity of long-term energy storage technology has relatively low attention, and differentiated policies are needed to support the development of related fields.
For the future development of the industry, Liu Yanlong believes that the first thing to consider safety and improve system efficiency. The new architecture, digitalization, intelligence, modularization and other aspects of the overall consideration, targeted research and development of energy storage cells, material system and other equipment required for different application scenarios, and constantly innovate and optimize the manufacturing process.
Secondly, it is necessary to establish and improve the upstream materials, equipment, batteries, fire protection, testing and certification, system integration, recycling and other supply chain systems.
In addition, a unified regulatory platform for shared energy storage should be established. Scientific evaluation of energy storage in the power generation side, grid side, user side play a different role of market potential and benefit, combined with the typical regional power system structure, new energy given, auxiliary service market, spot trading, peak valley price and other specific situation, promote the energy storage in the power system each link layout and the overall planning of capacity configuration.
It is worth noting that the construction of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases needs to be coordinated with the local power supply structure, the current situation and planning of the power grid, as well as the 14th Five-Year Plan of national power. Due to the volatility and instability of wind power generation, it is necessary to consider adjusting the supporting power supply type, capacity and adjustment performance in the construction, especially the optimal configuration of energy storage. With the improvement of the penetration rate of new energy vehicles, the use of new energy vehicles for energy storage adjustment will become the direction of market attention.
Global will rise carbon footprint will put pressure from the supply chain of energy storage industry, although the current carbon footprint standard has not been unified definition, but based on the whole industry chain considerations and future development, carbon footprint management, " energy storage industry and enterprises should prepare for a rainy day, to focus on and explore, actively to the direction of green electricity low carbon development."Liu said.
