Baghdad, Iraq | January 10–12
MOTOMA, a professional provider of lithium battery and energy storage solutions, has successfully concluded its participation in the 11th Iraq Energy Expo (IEE), held in Baghdad from January 10 to 12. The exhibition brought together solar developers, EPC contractors, system integrators, and energy professionals to discuss practical solutions addressing Iraq’s ongoing power supply challenges and renewable energy transition.
Addressing Iraq’s Power Supply Gap with Practical Solutions
Iraq continues to face structural challenges in its power sector. While the country’s nominal generation capacity stands at approximately 39.5 GW, actual output remains around 21 GW, leaving a significant supply gap—particularly during summer peak demand. Nearly one-third of Iraq’s electricity supply is currently dependent on imports, highlighting the urgency for decentralized and locally generated power solutions.
Against this backdrop, discussions at the MOTOMA booth focused on solar power systems combined with battery energy storage, designed to improve supply stability, reduce reliance on imported electricity, and support both grid-connected and off-grid applications.

Rapid Growth of Solar Energy and Market Momentum
Solar energy is gaining momentum in Iraq, now accounting for approximately 10% of the country’s total power generation. Iraq’s natural conditions further support this growth. With 8–10 hours of sunlight per day, annual sunshine duration reaching 3,000–3,650 hours, and solar irradiation levels of up to 2,200 kWh/m² in southern regions, the country offers strong fundamentals for utility-scale and distributed solar development.
Policy Support Driving Solar and Energy Storage Deployment
The Iraqi government has set a clear target to increase renewable energy capacity to 12 GW by 2030, representing 33% of the national power mix. Since 2024, photovoltaic equipment imports have been exempt from customs duties, and foreign investors are permitted 100% ownership of solar power projects.

In addition, Iraq has approved a USD 680 million clean energy fund, dedicated to supporting solar and other renewable energy initiatives. To meet its targets, the country plans to add at least 1.75 GW of new solar projects, with developments already underway in Karbala, Muthanna, and Basra. These projects are expected to drive substantial demand for energy storage systems, power electronics, and long-term system maintenance services.
Local Experience and On-the-Ground Support
With multiple completed and ongoing projects across Iraq, MOTOMA has established strong local capabilities in solar system installation, on-site commissioning, preventive maintenance, and after-sales technical support. This localized approach enables faster response to project needs and ensures system performance throughout the full lifecycle.
MOTOMA approached the Iraq Energy Expo as an opportunity to better understand Iraq’s operating environment, grid limitations, and long-term service needs, and to engineer solar and energy storage systems for real-world conditions, supported by localized installation, maintenance, and after-sales capabilities.
International Cooperation and Regional Collaboration
The exhibition also highlighted Iraq’s openness to international cooperation in renewable energy development. MOTOMA’s engagement with both local and international partners reflects this collaborative environment and the company’s role in supporting technically reliable, service-oriented energy solutions.
Looking Ahead
As Iraq continues to expand its renewable energy infrastructure, MOTOMA remains committed to supporting the market with localized engineering expertise, reliable energy storage technologies, and long-term service support, including projects across Baghdad, Basra, Karbala, Najaf, Muthanna, Dhi Qar, and other key regions nationwide.
MOTOMA thanks all visitors, partners, and industry professionals who engaged in meaningful discussions during the exhibition and looks forward to further collaboration as Iraq’s solar and energy storage market continues to develop.
